Vélfag further strengthens its strong position in onboard processing as new Júlíus Geirmundsson joins the Ranks

Hraðfrystihúsið-Gunnvör and Vélfag have signed an agreement for the delivery of processing equipment for the new Júlíus Geirmundsson, currently under construction in Vigo, Spain. The equipment includes two M500 headers, an M700 filleting machine with an M825 skinning unit, and various additional equipment. It will be installed onboard in Vigo, where the ship is being built, with delivery scheduled for the latter half of 2026. The new vessel will be equipped with the latest technology available, significantly easing the crew’s workload and enhancing productivity through increased automation.

“Our partnership with HG is extremely significant for us at Vélfag, a leading company in processing equipment for the freezer trawler fleet. We are very familiar with the demanding onboard environment, which has shaped Vélfag’s core values and design principles from the beginning, emphasizing safety, quality, and reliability. With this agreement, 85% of all fish processed on Icelandic freezer trawlers will be handled using Vélfag’s equipment,” says Trausti Arnason, CEO of Vélfag ehf.
